Enjoy sunrise and sunset in Freycinet National Park … Coles Bay … Bay of Fires …
As day begins, sun rises over horizon … As day ends, sun sets over horizon …
Everyday.
Yet, it is never the same daily. Why?
Time of year, daily weather condition, cloud cover … temperature … affects sky in most amazing manner.
Freycinet National Park
Peninsular defined by Schouten Island and granite mountains – The Hazards; lookout with panoramic views over Wineglass Bay … lots of bays (Friendly Beaches, Honeymoon, Sleepy Bays), secluded coves over Tasman Sea.
Sunrise
Cold … very cold morning, but excitement fills air for die-hards wanting to capture exquisite sunrise … and we were not disappointed !
Scattered round bay with tripods … waiting … waiting … and here it comes … sun rises – caught within clouds amidst blowing winds …
Don’t forget there’s another story after sun has risen … and how you capture it …

Waiting for sun to set requires patience, lots of patience …
Meantime, appreciate surroundings …have a chat … re-calibrate camera, position tripods …
Look forward but don’t forget to look backwards as well … lots happening all around – amazing colours as sun sets over horizon … yellows, reds, vibrant greens as sun’s rays lands on surrounding landscape …
Sunset over water; along horizon – an enchanting event to experience. Reflections on still waters; on rocks highlighting colours, rocky textures, interplay of light and shadows …

Bay of Fires
Along Tasmania’s north-east coast is Larapuna or Bay of Fires … sandy beaches … clear blue waters … granite rocks laden with orange lichen … also voted as BBC’s world’s best beach escape in 2026 … simply awesome !
Lots of campgrounds near beaches … you can walk, explore coast … or simply sit back and enjoy the views. Or bike through rugged mountain trails for those not-so-faint hearted …

Brave cold mornings again, catch rising sun over dark skies … tidal waves … walk along sandy shores …
And what you see after sun has risen … even on cloudy days; scene is magnificent !
Rugged shores … orange-lichen granite-rocks rounded by erosion … scattered along shoreline …
Lonely trees on outcrops …
Sunset
Returning for sunset same day … now facing rocky outcrop … cloudy sky, threatening rain …
Dark, foreboding … wondering if it will pour … trying to catch sunset before weather breaks …
Suddenly, sky cleared … and sun continued its descent towards horizon … casting golden glow over water, rocks …
And then there is more … blue hour after sun has set …
Rocks darkened … fading light casting shadows over rocks … trying to catch final rays before full darkness sets in …
Final Words
Always great to catch glimpses of sunrise and sunsets – even more magnificent when able to capture and freeze moment via camera …
Truly a joy to be able to capture and share magnificence of Mother Nature …
