Raby Bay Harbour

Midway between Brisbane City and Gold Coast, Raby Bay Harbourside sits within Moreton Bay, South East Queensland, Australia – forms the coastline of Cleveland and Ormiston, suburbs in the Redlands.

Do you know Raby Bay is known for its seagrass meadows, which support the local dugong population?

Catch the occasional dugong along these shores … if you keep an eye out for them.

You can drive to Raby Bay or take a train to the most scenic railway station in Queensland, – the Cleveland railway station, which opens out to Raby Bay itself.

An inviting welcome when you step off the train.

The Raby Bay canal estate developed in 1979 expanded this Cleveland suburb into the bay creating prestigious waterfront homes and commercial businesses with access to eateries and marina.

The marina offers a central location for seafarers north and south of the coastline; and was also a pit stop for Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp and his crew), docking the Black Pearl for a bit of R & R whilst filming the latest Pirates of the Caribbean ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’ in 2015.

Take a walk from the railway station, along the boardwalk, to restaurants and cafes; serving up a variety of fresh eats – cool off with a drink and meal at Fiction Bar and Restaurant, taste freshest fish and chips from Samson Fish Seafood, or exotic and spicy Thai at Thai Inlay – 3 of my favourite eateries in Raby Bay.

Why?

The Fiction Bar and Restaurant

The Fiction restaurant offers modern Australian fare from fresh local seafood to juicy steaks cooked the way you like. Sample sweet potato fries; lightly crumbed, tender. salt and pepper calamari or enjoy the burst of flavour biting into tempura pumpkin flowers served with aioli sweet-chilli brandy; savour the symphony of freshness as you watch yachts cruise by.

Sit beside the boardwalk or laze at the stools and benches overlooking the sunken bar, enjoy cold beers, a glass of wine, basking in gentle sea breezes.

Happy hour is usually busy but never overly crowded; perfect spot to watch Queensland’s sun sets over the bay.

Good place to catch up with friends for a drink, a meal … or for that special dinner with that special someone … enjoy live music, great food accompanied by great selection of beers and wine.

Nikki and her team will look after you.

Fish is served grilled, crumbed or battered; personal favourite is crumbed – choice of fish is lightly crumbed, fried golden brown, served with chips, crispy salad and tartare sauce.

There is a seafood platter for one for big eaters, or a platter for two to share; cold or hot platter – you will not be disappointed.

Always service with a smile – Sam, Lorna and team will assist with your requests.

You can bring your own beer, wine, and glasses as well, at Samson’s; though they also have a full selection of soft drinks and juices to choose from.

Thai Inlay Restaurant

If you like something spicy and exotic; you cannot go pass Thai Inlay Restaurant – their menu will warm your palate.

‘Fish on Fire’, fish pieces cooked with a spicy sauce (traditional Thai recipe); or a sizzling stir-fry chicken or pork Thai-style.

A good ‘Pad Thai’ (stir-fry noodles) is to be savoured with reverence – noodles cooked just right – ‘el dente’ is the word; stir-fried with meats and vegetables or served as a vegetarian dish – an all-time favourite!

Don’t forget the entrees – local favourite is Coconut Prawns, king prawns in light batter, coated with coconut flakes, shallow-fried, served with sweet chilli sauce. Or homemade Thai spring rolls, fishcakes, tom yum soup and selection of vegetarian entrees.

Traditional classics of green, red or massaman curries, the choice is endless, depending on your fancy. Let Adele, dining supervisor, know when ordering, chef will make it as mild or as spicy as you desire.

Thai food when not in Thailand.
